What is the typical neckties American knot?

The most common knot tied in neckties is one known as the ‘American knot’ – a half Windsor knot with a dimple. This tying method is one of eighty-five different ways to tie a knot (as researchers Mao and Fink demonstrated in the late 1990s study conducted by the Cambridge Cavendish Laboratory) and produces a neat, triangular knot. It is smaller than the Windsor knot, but is not, as the name suggests, half its size. There is also no evidence to suggest that it is derived from the Windsor knot, although it is probably so named because people found it easier to tie than the Windsor.
