Reserve the pronged and electronic ones to big, unruly dogs. With an unruly dog, you may not have a choice but to go for the pronged variety. Do remember not to suddenly jerk the leash when controlling your dog with such a collar. If you do it right, you will be rewarded with a well-behaved dog that you can bring on walks in public places. Because there is a lot of controversy surrounding electronic collars, you may prefer those that emit citronella than those that actually apply electric shock.
